Taking Video Games to the Next Level
“Welcome to the best
place on Earth! Let the gaming commence.”
The room slowly
started to fill with people looking excited as they entered. Students and people on tours walked past,
most with confused or surprised expressions on their face.
The Video Game
Tournament was part of High Point University’s Communication Week and to the
surprise of some it was a huge success.
There were four or
five different game consoles set up around the room. People signed up for what games they wanted
to play, a bracket was made and the gaming was off.
“I am really excited
that so many people are here“ Taylor
Tornatore, the student that help to organize the event. “I was actually worried that nobody would
show up.”
It was different than
anything I have ever experienced before at High Point. The people who are normally quite and keep to
them selves, were all laughing and talking.
There were more conversations about different video games and game
systems, in that one room, than I have ever experienced in my entire life.
A room, hundreds of
people walk by everyday, was filled with people who were having fun and doing
something they all enjoyed.
"I have been working with Dr. Hall to plan this event and I'm so happy to see it actually happening," Tornatore said with a breath as she stepped back to watch the event.
Many different students could be heard discussing the video games they were playing or the video games they are most excited about.
"I think this Video Game Tournament was a huge success," Dr. Stephan Hall, the faculty overseeing the event exclaimed. "It's better than it was last year and I think next year will be even better!"
